Iran has vowed to defend itself with “all force” following devastating US airstrikes on its nuclear facilities, further escalating the US-Iran conflict in the Middle East. Tehran described the strikes as an unlawful act of aggression and urged the UN Security Council to intervene immediately.

Iran Denounces Strikes as Violation of International Law

The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the attack on three major nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—as a direct breach of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter. Tehran accused the United States of aiding Israel in targeting peaceful nuclear infrastructure, calling it a “heinous crime” and a “threat to global non-proliferation efforts.”

Tehran’s Diplomatic and Military Response

Iran warned the attacks would have “dangerous consequences” and called for an emergency UN session. Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi revealed that talks with Western powers were ongoing when the strikes occurred. He said Iran remained committed to diplomacy but would respond if provoked.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated Iran would not tolerate attacks on its sovereignty and criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for its alleged silence and bias.

Trump Declares Operation a Success

US President Donald Trump confirmed the strikes in a televised address, stating that all aircraft returned safely. He warned Iran of further, more devastating attacks if it retaliated. Trump emphasized that the goal was to eliminate Iran’s nuclear capacity and insisted the US seeks peace, not regime change.

Global Reaction Mixed

The UN Secretary-General called the strikes a “dangerous escalation” and urged de-escalation. While Israel praised the move, leaders from Cuba, Venezuela, and Mexico condemned it. Russia reiterated there was no evidence Iran was pursuing nuclear weapons.

Concerns Over Regional Stability

The attacks sparked fears of soaring oil prices and broader conflict. Iran reported over 430 deaths and thousands injured since Israel began its campaign. Meanwhile, political debate continues in the US, with some lawmakers questioning Trump’s authority to launch strikes without Congressional approval.
