Tensions have sharply escalated in the Pakistan-India conflict after Indian missile strikes killed 31 people in Pakistan-administered areas, prompting Islamabad to authorize its military to carry out retaliatory actions.
Strikes Spark Outrage in Islamabad
In a strongly worded statement, Pakistan accused India of “igniting an inferno” across the region. The strikes, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, hit nine locations, including areas in Azad Kashmir and Punjab. Several children were among the dead, and dozens more were injured.

India Claims Retaliation Against Militants
India said the strikes were in direct response to a recent militant attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 25 Hindu tourists and their guide. According to Indian officials, the missile strikes targeted camps linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed—groups long accused of launching attacks in India from Pakistani soil.
Pakistan Rejects India’s Justification
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar rejected India’s claims, stating that no terrorist infrastructure existed in the targeted regions. He emphasized that Pakistan had shown “maximum restraint” until now but reserved the right to respond appropriately.
Strikes Hit Sensitive Areas
For the first time since the 1971 war, Indian missiles struck deep into Punjab, Pakistan’s political and military heartland, killing 16 people. Among the targets was a mosque near Bahawalpur.
