Islamabad: Amid escalating tensions in South Asia, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Jiang Zaidong, met Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House on Thursday. He reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for Pakistan in the face of Indian propaganda and unilateral actions, stating that both countries share the goal of securing regional peace and stability.

During the meeting, the Chinese envoy thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz for sharing Pakistan’s stance on the current situation and praised Islamabad’s consistent call for de-escalation. “China will always stand by Pakistan to ensure peace and stability in the region,” the Ambassador stated, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office.

PM Thanks China for Principled Support

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed warm wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. He thanked China for its “strong and steadfast support” amid the current geopolitical climate. Recalling the recent phone conversation between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, the Prime Minister acknowledged Beijing’s understanding of Pakistan’s principled position on India’s recent actions since April 22, 2025.

Shehbaz Sharif specifically appreciated China’s endorsement of his offer to launch a “credible, neutral, and transparent international investigation” into the Pahalgam incident—a move aimed at countering Indian disinformation and exposing ground realities.

India’s Actions Threaten Regional Focus on Terrorism

The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s consistent stance against terrorism in all forms. “Pakistan has sacrificed over 90,000 lives and suffered over $152 billion in economic losses in the global fight against terror,” he stated. He warned that India’s aggressive behavior could hinder Pakistan’s ongoing counter-terrorism operations against ISKP, TTP, and BLA—groups operating from Afghan soil.

Water Weaponization & Kashmir Dispute Raised

Sharif also condemned India’s decision to “weaponize water,” calling it a dangerous violation of the Indus Waters Treaty. He noted that the treaty did not allow either side to unilaterally abandon its commitments.

Addressing the long-standing issue of Jammu and Kashmir, the Prime Minister asserted that only a peaceful and just resolution of the dispute could ensure sustainable peace in South Asia. “Ignoring the aspirations of the Kashmiri people only fuels instability,” he remarked.

China Echoes Commitment to Peaceful Partnership

Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, in response, assured the Prime Minister of China’s continued diplomatic and strategic support. He reiterated that China values its partnership with Pakistan and will work jointly to prevent regional escalation and promote harmony.

The meeting concluded with a mutual pledge to strengthen bilateral cooperation in diplomacy, security, and regional peacebuilding.
