Pakistan’s javelin star Arshad Nadeem has secured the fourth spot in the latest World Athletics Rankings, affirming his place among the sport’s elite despite limited appearances this season. The Olympian holds 1,370 points, a remarkable feat considering he has only competed in one ranking event so far in 2025.
Limited Appearances, Strong Impact
Arshad’s only outing this season came at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok, where he clinched gold with a throw of 86.40 meters. That performance helped maintain his high standing, but his lack of frequent participation has limited his chances to climb even higher.
Upcoming Events Crucial
With the World Athletics Championships set for September, Arshad is expected to take part in two to three more international competitions. These events will be key to improving his form and boosting his global ranking ahead of the major showdown later this year.

Top Javelin Throwers in the World
India’s Neeraj Chopra, Arshad’s long-time rival, tops the men’s javelin list with 1,445 points. Grenada’s Anderson Peters follows with 1,431, and Germany’s Julian Weber ranks third with 1,407. Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch and Kenya’s Julius Yego complete the top six.
Nadeem’s Record-Breaking Rise
Arshad became a national hero after his gold-medal triumph at the Paris Olympics, where he delivered a historic 92.97-meter throw. That effort not only shattered Olympic records but also made him the first Pakistani to win Olympic gold in track and field. He remains the only South Asian to break the 90-meter barrier in javelin.
Historic Asian Victory
Last month, Arshad made further history by becoming the first Pakistani in over 50 years to win gold at the Asian Athletics Championships. His win brought back memories of 1973, when Allah Ditta and Muhammad Younis secured Pakistan’s last titles in javelin and 800m events.
Arshad’s current standing reflects both his talent and his potential to rise even further on the world stage.
