Trump Threatens New Strikes as Iran Claims Victory in Israel War

“He blatantly and foolishly lied,” Trump wrote

Trump Threatens New Strikes as Iran Claims Victory in Israel War in the recent 12-day war with Israel. In a fiery post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Iran suffered devastating losses and accused Khamenei of spreading lies to save face.

“He blatantly and foolishly lied,” Trump wrote, referring to Khamenei’s recent speech where the Supreme Leader claimed Iran had “slapped America in the face” by launching missiles at a US base in Qatar. Trump also claimed credit for saving Khamenei’s life by halting a final Israeli strike during the war. “His country was decimated, his three evil nuclear sites were obliterated… I knew exactly where he was sheltered,” Trump said. “I would not let Israel or the US Armed Forces… terminate his life.”

Trump’s comments come just days after the ceasefire that ended direct hostilities between Iran and Israel, following intense missile exchanges and airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear sites at Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz.

Nuclear Tensions and Trump’s Fresh Threats

Trump did not stop at criticizing Khamenei. He made it clear that if Iran resumes or accelerates its nuclear weapons programme, the US would respond with more military action. Speaking at a White House news conference earlier on Friday, Trump was asked whether he would consider new strikes if the previous ones had not eliminated Iran’s nuclear threat.

“Sure, without question, absolutely,” he responded.

He said he preferred diplomatic checks through the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), but warned that Iran’s behavior was undermining such efforts. Tehran recently passed a bill to suspend cooperation with the IAEA, clearly in reaction to the airstrikes.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that Tehran may refuse inspection requests from the IAEA, describing them as “meaningless” and potentially “malign in intent.” His statement triggered fresh concerns among international observers, especially after IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed that no inspections have occurred since the bombing campaign began on June 13.

Israel Keeps the Pressure On

While Trump’s threats made headlines in Washington, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz struck a similarly aggressive tone. He revealed that the Israeli military had been ordered to prepare a detailed enforcement plan against Iran.

Katz said the plan includes maintaining air superiority, preventing Iran’s missile and nuclear advancement, and targeting any support Tehran provides to militant groups attacking Israel. He reiterated that Israel did not need US approval to take out Khamenei.

In fact, on Thursday, Katz said Israel had actively considered “eliminating” Khamenei during the recent conflict.

Though the war has paused, tensions are far from over. Trump’s latest statements suggest the US is willing to return to military action, while Iran’s refusal to allow inspections signals a hardened position. Meanwhile, Israel appears unwilling to fully disengage and may act unilaterally if it feels threatened.
