Heavy monsoon rains lashed Punjab on Thursday, leaving four people dead and 19 others injured in rain-related incidents across the province, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). Most of the casualties occurred due to roof collapses and flooding.
Fatalities Across Districts
Thirteen incidents were reported, with Okara witnessing the highest number. Among the deceased were two children and two adult men. One girl drowned in a storm drain in Okara, while another child died in Bahawalnagar. Two men drowned in Jhelum. A person was also injured by a lightning strike in Okara.
Rescue 1122 confirmed that 13 mud and dilapidated houses were damaged or collapsed due to the rain. Punjab rescue spokesperson Farooq Ahmed urged the public to stay away from electric poles, low-lying areas, and signboards, and to call 1122 in emergencies.

Official Response and Warnings
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia instructed hospitals to provide top-tier medical care to the injured. He announced that families of the deceased would be compensated, in line with the Punjab government’s policy. Citizens were also urged to take precautions, as the first spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until July 1st.
Rainfall and Weather Outlook
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported widespread rainfall and thunderstorms in Punjab, KP, Azad Kashmir, and Islamabad. Kasur recorded 63mm rainfall, Sheikhupura 50mm, and Okara 30mm. Meanwhile, KP’s Malam Jabba saw the highest rainfall nationwide at 70mm.
On Friday, more heavy rainfall is expected in Azad Kashmir, KP, Islamabad, and northern and central Punjab. Urban flooding risks remain high in cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala.
Karachi’s Forecast
Karachi is also expected to see isolated showers and thunderstorms by Friday evening. The temperature will range from 35°C to 37°C, with humidity levels between 70–80 percent. Rainfall is expected in parts of Sindh including Tharparkar, Umerkot, and Badin.
Emergency preparations have been heightened across Punjab, as officials expect 25% more rainfall than usual this monsoon season.
