Despite improved safety efforts during this year’s pilgrimage, Hajj 2025 pilgrims from Pakistan faced tragedy as 18 people lost their lives in Saudi Arabia.

Health Complications Behind Deaths

According to ministry sources, the majority of the pilgrims who passed away suffered from heart-related issues and other pre-existing health conditions. All were buried in Jannatul Baqi, the historic cemetery in Medina. However, this year’s death toll marks a noticeable decline compared to Hajj 2024, when 35 Pakistani pilgrims died.

Over 1.6 Million Join Hajj 2025

The Ministry highlighted that a total of 1,673,230 pilgrims performed Hajj this year. Among them, 1,506,576 were international pilgrims from 171 countries. Saudi officials also recorded 166,654 domestic pilgrims. Notably, the gender ratio was one of the most balanced in Hajj history, with 877,841 men and 795,389 women participating.

Saudi Arabia Enhances Safety Measures

After the devastating heatwave of 2024, which claimed over 1,300 lives due to temperatures peaking at 51.8°C (125°F), Saudi Arabia implemented extensive cooling and safety measures. These included expanded shaded areas, cooling stations, and increased medical personnel at key sites.

Moreover, strict restrictions were imposed on unauthorized pilgrims, resulting in reduced crowd density and improved movement at the holy locations.

Pilgrim Movement and Return

The Saudi General Authority for Statistics reported that the majority of pilgrims—1,435,017—arrived by air. Meanwhile, 66,465 traveled via land and 5,094 came by sea. As the pilgrimage ends and Eid al-Adha begins, authorities are focusing on ensuring the safe return of pilgrims to their home countries.

With Hajj 2025 now complete, officials continue to monitor post-Hajj health conditions and transportation logistics, ensuring a secure and respectful conclusion to this sacred journey.
