Pakistan has strongly condemned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks, calling them a “reckless provocation” that threatens regional peace. The comments, delivered during a political rally in Gujarat, targeted Pakistan’s anti-terrorism efforts and escalated tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Modi’s Remarks Spark Diplomatic Fire

Modi accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism and challenged its youth to take responsibility. He contrasted India’s focus on tourism with what he called Pakistan’s “terrorism tourism.” He also claimed Indian forces had previously destroyed Pakistani air bases and had retaliated “twice as hard” after Pakistan’s alleged recent attacks.

Pakistan’s Response: Irresponsible and Alarming

In response, the Foreign Office (FO) in Islamabad criticized Modi’s tone and content. “These hate-filled remarks violate international norms,” the FO stated, pointing to the United Nations Charter which calls for peaceful conflict resolution. The FO added that such rhetoric sets a dangerous precedent and lacks the maturity expected of a leader of a nuclear state.

Distraction From Kashmir Realities

Pakistan accused Modi of using inflammatory language to divert attention from human rights abuses and demographic changes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Islamabad maintained that its record in global peacekeeping and counterterrorism stands in contrast to India’s growing extremism and minority disenfranchisement.

Rising Tensions Since April

Tensions have escalated sharply since an April 22 attack in IIOJK killed 26 people. India blamed Pakistan without evidence, triggering a series of hostile actions. These included suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, cutting diplomatic ties, and targeting Pakistani cities with missiles.

Pakistan responded with airspace restrictions, trade halts, and military counterattacks. It also launched Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, striking Indian military assets.

Call for Global Attention

While a U.S.-brokered ceasefire has paused military strikes, Islamabad urged the international community to monitor India’s rhetoric, warning that such language undermines the chance for lasting peace in South Asia.
