Punjab Education Department Denies Fake Notification About Summer Vacations

LAHORE: The School Education Department (SED) Punjab has rejected a fake notification about summer vacations in schools. The document, widely circulated on social media, claimed that public and private schools would observe holidays from May 22 to August 17, 2025.
However, the department has clarified that the notification is false.
A spokesperson for the SED issued a statement on Monday. They confirmed that no decision has been made yet about summer holidays. “The information being spread online is incorrect and misleading,” the spokesperson said.
No Official Notification Issued
The viral notification caused confusion among parents, teachers, and students. Many believed the summer break had been announced. But the department stepped in to clear the air.
“There has been no official notification,” said the spokesperson. “The department will announce the vacation dates through proper and reliable channels.”
“Basic Amount of Food” Feeds War Spin
Officials urged the public to rely only on updates shared by the department. “Please avoid sharing or believing in unverified news,” the spokesperson added.
Public Advised to Stay Alert
The department also reminded citizens to be careful about fake news. It warned that spreading such misinformation can cause unnecessary panic.
Parents expressed frustration over the confusion. Many were preparing for the early holidays mentioned in the fake notification. “We started planning our travel thinking the break starts this week,” said one parent in Lahore. “This fake news has disrupted our plans.”
School administrators also reported receiving questions from concerned students and staff. “We got calls all morning,” said a principal of a private school. “People thought the holidays had been officially declared.”
SED Urges Patience
The SED asked everyone to wait for an official announcement. It will be shared through newspapers, the department’s website, and verified social media accounts.
“We understand the concern of parents and school staff,” said the spokesperson. “But decisions about vacations are made after considering weather, exams, and other academic matters.”
Action Against Fake News
The department may take action against those spreading the fake notification. Authorities are tracing the origin of the false document.
Legal experts say such actions fall under cybercrime laws. “Sharing fake official notices can lead to penalties,” said a lawyer. “People should be careful before forwarding such posts.”
