Pakistan is observing Youm-e-Tashakkur today (Friday) to pay heartfelt tribute to the Armed Forces and the people for their victory in Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos and Marka-e-Haq against Indian aggression.
The day began with special prayers in mosques across the country. Worshippers offered prayers for peace and national unity. Recitation of the Holy Quran was also held in homes and mosques.
A thirty-one-gun salute was fired in the Federal Capital after Fajr prayer. The provincial capitals echoed with twenty-one-gun salutes to mark the occasion.
Guard Changing at National Monuments
A change of guard ceremony took place at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi. In Lahore, a similar ceremony was held at the tomb of national poet Allama Iqbal. Both events drew crowds and national attention.
Martyrs’ Families Honoured
Special meetings are being arranged with the families of martyrs who laid down their lives during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos. Officials and military personnel are visiting them to acknowledge their sacrifices and present national gratitude.
Main Ceremony in Islamabad
The main event of Youm-e-Tashakkur will be held at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend as the chief guest. Top military leadership, including the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the Chief of Army Staff, will also participate.
The ceremony will include national songs, a documentary on the operation, and speeches highlighting the courage of the nation and its defenders.
Ceasefire with India Extended Till May 18
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced an extension in the ceasefire with India. He said that the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both sides held contact via a hotline.
During their first communication on May 10, after the operation, the two sides agreed on a ceasefire until May 12. Later, it was extended to May 14. Now, it stands extended till May 18, following another round of talks.
Dar shared these updates while speaking in the Senate. He appreciated the professionalism and restraint shown by the Pakistan Army during the confrontation.
He confirmed that Pakistan’s DGMO Major General Kashif Abdullah and India’s Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai conducted the talks.
