ISLAMABAD: In a major breakthrough, jailed PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan has agreed to start a dialogue with the government. This follows a recent offer made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to reliable sources, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan met Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Monday. During the meeting, Khan gave him the green light to move forward with talks. This marks the first formal step by PTI toward political negotiations in months.
Talks to Remain Away from Media Spotlight
Imran Khan has stressed that talks should not take place in front of television cameras. He believes off-camera discussions will yield better results. PTI sources say media exposure has disrupted previous attempts at dialogue.
Following Khan’s nod, PTI will now formally reach out to the government. Party leaders believe quiet, focused negotiations are the need of the hour. They argue that public glare often derails the actual purpose of talks.
Gohar Confirms Proposal Was Shared with Khan
When contacted, Barrister Gohar confirmed he had shared PM Shehbaz’s dialogue offer with Khan. However, he refused to reveal the contents of their conversation. “I can’t divulge what was discussed between us,” said Gohar.
This development came after PM Shehbaz invited PTI to join a national dialogue. He made the proposal during a speech on the National Assembly floor. At the time, PTI responded positively but stressed the need for Khan’s approval before any move.

Khan Wants Establishment’s Support for Dialogue
Party insiders also revealed that Imran Khan wants the talks to have support from the military establishment. One source claimed Khan is even open to meeting a representative from the establishment to help kick-start the process.
This push for dialogue comes at a critical time. The country faces rising internal and external tensions. A recent incident involving India has further fueled calls for political unity and reconciliation.
Will Quiet Talks Break the Ice?
It remains to be seen whether these behind-the-scenes talks will lead to real progress. However, Khan’s willingness signals a shift from his earlier hardline stance. With both sides showing interest, political observers are hopeful for a breakthrough.
