Lahore Qalandars have suffered a major setback as star all-rounder David Wiese announced his withdrawal from PSL 10, just days before the tournament resumes on May 17. His decision comes in the wake of recent cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan that temporarily paused the league.

Family Concerns Trigger Exit

Speaking on a sports podcast, Wiese explained that the main reason behind his withdrawal was the emotional toll the situation had taken on his family. “It’s difficult when you’re watching from abroad,” he said. “If you haven’t been in Pakistan and you’re just following the news, it feels like a war zone.”

Though Wiese acknowledged the actual security situation in Pakistan was well-managed, he said the perception created concern among his loved ones. “We know how far we are from the borders, and security was never really a worry for us as players. But for people watching from the outside, it looked a lot worse.”

No Return for Current Season

Wiese confirmed that he will not return for the remaining PSL 10 matches. However, he expressed a strong desire to rejoin the Qalandars next year. “I’ve already told everyone I won’t be back this year, but I’m definitely looking forward to coming back for the next season.”

Commends Security and Transparency

Despite pulling out, Wiese praised the Pakistan Super League’s handling of the crisis. He said the players’ associations, team owners, and security personnel were constantly in touch and transparent throughout the ordeal.

The absence of Wiese, a vital player for the defending champions, presents a major challenge for Lahore Qalandars as they prepare to restart their campaign in Rawalpindi.
