Saudi Arabia has called for de-escalation as tensions rise between Pakistan and India. The keyword Pakistan-India conflict was at the center of discussions when Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on May 9, 2025.

Critical Visit Amid Crisis

Al-Jubeir’s visit came just two days after India launched a series of missile and drone strikes on Pakistani territory. The Pakistan Army responded by intercepting and destroying 77 Israeli-made Harop drones. The Saudi minister’s arrival in Islamabad marked a crucial diplomatic intervention at a time of heightened volatility.

Call for Restraint and Dialogue

During talks at the Prime Minister’s House, Al-Jubeir conveyed Riyadh’s deep concern over the situation. He emphasized the need for restraint and stressed that Pakistan and India must resolve their disputes through peaceful means and in accordance with international law and UN Security Council resolutions.

Strong Response from Pakistan

Prime Minister Sharif condemned India’s “unprovoked and unjustified aggression,” stating it had resulted in civilian deaths and significant damage to infrastructure. He accused India of violating Pakistan’s sovereignty and warned that such actions endangered regional peace.

Tribute to the Armed Forces

Sharif praised the Pakistan Armed Forces for their swift and courageous defense, reaffirming the nation’s readiness to safeguard its territory under Article 51 of the UN Charter. He stressed that Pakistan would not compromise on its security or national dignity.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Prime Minister Sharif welcomed Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic efforts and expressed appreciation for the Kingdom’s continued support. He also highlighted the growing strength of Pakistan-Saudi ties and sent warm greetings to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
