A recent crackdown by the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) has exposed a serious case of milk adulteration in Karachi. Inspections of over 100 tea shops revealed that nearly all were using contaminated ingredients, raising health concerns for millions who consume tea daily.
Contaminated Tea and Milk Widespread
Officials confirmed that 100% of the tea leaf samples and 90% of the milk samples collected from 127 tea shops across Karachi were adulterated. According to SFA’s analysis, only 10% of the milk used was pure.
District-Wise Breakdown
The sampling covered all seven districts of Karachi. However Other results showed nine out of 16 in Korangi, 10 out of 20 in Malir, five out of 16 in East, six out of 13 in Keamari, three out of seven in West, and two out of 12 in Central.

Health Risks and Enforcement
SFA Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui stated that these samples were tested in collaboration with the University of Karachi. However He confirmed that a city-wide enforcement drive is underway.

The SFA plans to take strict legal and administrative action against suppliers and tea stall owners involved in the sale of adulterated milk and tea leaves. In conclusion Siddiqui emphasized the authority’s commitment to ensuring food safety and warned that offenders will face consequences.
