Karachi, April 22, 2025 — The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has officially launched its E-Gates Feasibility and Installation Project, a significant step towards modernizing Pakistan’s aviation infrastructure. The project commenced with the signing of a strategic agreement between PAA and M2P Consulting at PAA headquarters.

A high-level delegation from M2P Consulting, including both local and international experts, met with PAA officials to begin the planning, design, and future implementation of e-gates at the three busiest airports in the country: Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.

High-Level Talks and Agreement Signing

Before the signing ceremony, detailed discussions took place to finalize key technical and operational strategies.

Deputy Director General Airports Sadiq ur Rehman and Deputy Director General Works and Development Sumair Saeed chaired the meeting.

What the Project Entails

The e-gates system will streamline passenger clearance processes through biometric verification, reduce manual checks, and align with ICAO international aviation protocols. Once installed, the system will not only enhance airport security but also significantly improve passenger flow, making travel more efficient and hassle-free.

The agreement covers:

  • Feasibility studies

  • Design and technical specifications

  • Installation and supervision

  • Integration with local and international systems

M2P Consulting will also oversee the competitive tender process to appoint contractors and provide technical supervision throughout the project.

Surveys Underway at Major Airports

Initial survey work at Islamabad and Lahore airports has already been completed. The survey at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport is scheduled to begin tomorrow. These surveys will help tailor the system to the unique infrastructure and passenger needs of each airport.

Strategic Importance

This development aligns with PAA’s broader vision to digitize and modernize airport services. With rising international travel and growing passenger expectations, automated systems such as e-gates are no longer a luxury—they’re a necessity.

PAA officials confirmed the e-gates will feature facial recognition, passport scanners, and real-time verification tools, delivering both convenience and enhanced security.

Attendees and Future Outlook

The event witnessed the presence of senior PAA leadership, including Directors of Planning, Development, and Engineering Services, signaling the project’s importance at the national level.

As Pakistan moves to upgrade its airports to global standards, the successful execution of this project is expected to be a game-changer for the country’s aviation sector.
