Israeli ambassador to France, Joshua Zarka, has confirmed that Paris was not informed in advance of Israel’s large-scale airstrikes on Iran, revealing a clear shift in diplomatic relations. Speaking on RTL Radio, Zarka stated, “The French state for a certain period is not as close as it was before. It’s an ally, but not to the point to be pre-warned of such an operation.”
The Israeli ambassador, who previously managed the Iran portfolio at Israel’s foreign ministry, said the ongoing operation would last for days and was intended to dismantle Iran’s nuclear programme.
This comes amid increasing strain between France and Israel, especially after French President Emmanuel Macron threatened sanctions if Tel Aviv fails to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Macron’s remarks last month signaled growing frustration within Europe over Israel’s handling of both the conflict in Gaza and its broader regional military strategy.
Iranian Drones Intercepted Over Multiple Countries
Following Israel’s early morning assault on Tehran under Operation Rising Lion, Iran launched over 100 drones in retaliation. Israeli forces have confirmed they are actively intercepting the incoming Iranian UAVs, with engagements occurring across Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the Israeli Air Force intercepted drones over Saudi airspace, while Kan public broadcaster confirmed drone interceptions over Syrian territory.
Meanwhile, Jordan’s military also reported intercepting several drones and missiles that breached its airspace this morning, according to state media. The involvement of Jordan and Saudi airspace in these defensive operations highlights the wider regional impact of this escalating confrontation.
This is a developing story as multiple militaries in the region remain on high alert, and the conflict risks expanding beyond Israel and Iran’s borders.
