100 Dead as Israel Launches New Gaza Offensive, Say Rescuers

Gaza City — Israeli airstrikes killed at least 100 people in Gaza on Friday, according to rescue workers. The renewed offensive comes amid growing international pressure and rising humanitarian concerns.

Local emergency teams said Israeli jets hit several densely populated areas. Residential buildings, makeshift camps, and roads were among the targets. “Bodies are still under the rubble,” said a rescuer from Khan Younis. “We can’t keep up.”

The attacks follow a complete blockade Israel reimposed on Gaza in early March. That move came just before a ceasefire collapsed, ending a fragile two-month truce between Israel and Hamas.

Hamas Ties Hostage Release to Aid Demands

Hamas said it released Edan Alexander, the last known American hostage, in coordination with Washington. The group urged the United States to push Israel to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza in return.

Taher al-Nunu, a senior Hamas official, said the release was part of an understanding with the US. “We are waiting for the American administration to pressure Israel,” he said. “The crossings must open. Aid must enter immediately.”

Hamas also demanded the reopening of Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings. Both routes remain sealed, cutting off food, water, and medical supplies to Gaza’s 2.3 million residents.

Trump Acknowledges Starvation Crisis

Former US President Donald Trump broke his silence on the crisis. Speaking on Friday, he admitted, “A lot of people are starving” in Gaza. His comments marked a rare acknowledgment of the severe humanitarian situation.

Trump’s administration played a direct role in securing Alexander’s release. However, critics say it has failed to push Israel hard enough on lifting the blockade.

Humanitarian Collapse in Gaza

The situation in Gaza is worsening by the hour. Aid organizations report that food and clean water are running out. Hospitals are overwhelmed. Fuel shortages have halted ambulances and water pumps.

The World Health Organization warned on Thursday that disease outbreaks are spreading. “Children are dying from malnutrition and dehydration,” said a WHO spokesperson. “The blockade is killing more than the bombs.”

Israel Remains Defiant

The Israeli government has not commented on Friday’s strikes. However, officials have previously stated that the blockade aims to weaken Hamas by cutting off its support systems.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected calls to ease the siege. “We will not reward terrorism,” he said earlier this week.

Global Outcry Grows

Nations and rights groups are urging an immediate ceasefire. The United Nations has warned of a looming famine. “This is collective punishment,” said a UN envoy.

As bombs fall and hunger spreads, Gaza remains sealed. The death toll continues to rise, with no sign of relief in sight.
