The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert as much of the country braces for a surge in temperatures this week.
A high-pressure system will dominate the country starting today, pushing daytime temperatures well above seasonal norms.
Relief could come late on May 19, when a westerly weather system is forecast to move into the upper parts of the country. This system may bring rain, wind, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms to Kashmir, the Pothohar region, upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northeast Punjab between May 19 and 20.

To manage the impact of the heatwave, the PMD has advised the public and relevant authorities to take precautionary steps:
Avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
Farmers should schedule agricultural tasks with care and ensure livestock protection.
Snowmelt in northern areas could intensify, requiring proper water resource planning.
Water conservation is urged across all sectors.
Authorities are on alert and urged to implement emergency measures where necessary.
