Share the latest news updates

As scorching temperatures grip the country, a shift is underway. The Pakistan weather update issued by the Meteorological Department forecasts scattered rain and thunderstorms across several regions today (Sunday), offering temporary relief from the ongoing spring heatwave.

Rains Spread Across Provinces

Rain and strong winds are expected in upper Sindh, Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan. Balochistan may also see scattered showers, while isolated thunderstorms could develop later in the day. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) emphasized that gusty winds and lightning remain a concern during this unstable weather pattern.

Heat Persists in Many Areas

Despite the rain forecast, much of the country continues to endure high temperatures. Turbat recorded the highest at a blistering 45°C, with Dadu, Jacobabad, Sibi, and Mohenjo Daro close behind at 44°C. Karachi, Multan, and Sahiwal reached 37°C, while Peshawar reported 35°C. Islamabad and Quetta experienced 33°C, and Gilgit and Muzaffarabad saw slightly cooler temperatures at 29°C.

Relief in Punjab

In Punjab, intense wind and rain broke the prolonged heatwave. Districts like Lahore and Islamabad experienced a sharp drop in temperature as rain swept through the region. Residents welcomed the shift, calling the downpour “long overdue.” According to the PMD, these cooler and wetter conditions are likely to persist through the day.

Disaster Management Advisories

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned citizens to remain cautious during this period. The risk of lightning strikes remains elevated, especially in areas experiencing strong convection and thunderstorms. People are advised to seek shelter during extreme weather and avoid open areas during lightning activity.

Temperature Dip in Lahore

Lahore witnessed a notable cooldown. Temperatures dipped to a low of 22°C, with the high expected to remain around 32°C. The change brought immediate comfort to residents and eased the pressure of days-long heat.

This unseasonal mix of spring heat and sudden storms highlights the volatility of Pakistan’s current climate conditions.
