Gaza Under Fire: Israeli Strikes Kill 17 as Evacuation Spreads

Israeli airstrikes killed at least 17 Palestinians across Gaza on Sunday, as Israeli airstrikes intensified and evacuation orders spread in northern areas. The latest attacks included two deaths in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood and several more across Jabalia and Khan Younis. Overcrowded shelters and ongoing bombardments continue to expose civilians to danger.
Spike in Civilian Deaths
According to health officials, Saturday saw 37 more deaths, including nine children. Drone and airstrikes hit multiple locations, while two civilians were reportedly shot near the Netzarim corridor while waiting for aid. A strike in Jabalia killed three children inside a home, and another blast near a school for displaced families took six more lives.
Evacuations Ordered as Conflict Deepens
The Israeli military urged residents in northern Gaza, including Jabalia and Gaza City, to evacuate toward the Al-Mawasi area in Khan Younis. The area is designated a “humanitarian zone,” though UN and Palestinian officials argue no place in Gaza is safe. The military warned of intensified operations aimed at dismantling Hamas’ capabilities.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with security officials to assess the offensive. Military leadership signaled the campaign was nearing strategic goals but cautioned against expanded fighting that could risk the lives of remaining Israeli hostages.
Trump Calls for Ceasefire
US President Donald Trump urged an end to the war, posting on social media, “Make the deal in Gaza, get the hostages back.” Mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and the US have renewed efforts for a ceasefire. Hamas responded positively but reiterated demands for a full Israeli withdrawal and end to hostilities.
Humanitarian Crisis Worsens
At least 66 children have died from malnutrition, Gaza authorities said, blaming Israel’s blockade and deliberate restriction of aid. They condemned the international community’s silence, calling on the UN to open crossings for urgent supplies.
Since October 2023, over 61,700 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 17,400 children. The ICC and ICJ are currently pursuing war crimes and genocide cases against Israeli leadership.
