Following Israel’s massive airstrike on Iran under Operation Rising Lion, the United States has been careful to describe the action as “unilateral” and repeatedly stated it was “not involved.” These phrases, repeated in press briefings and official statements, strongly suggest Washington is deliberately distancing itself from the Israeli decision.
Despite this, former President Donald Trump, speaking to a U.S. news outlet, confirmed that American officials were aware the attack was coming. “We knew what was about to happen,” Trump said, adding that the Biden administration was “watching closely” but chose not to intervene.
Political analysts believe the Biden administration’s phrasing indicates a desire to avoid direct entanglement, even while remaining an ally of Israel.

Trump Warns Against ‘Stupid Wars’
Donald Trump, who remains a key voice in U.S. foreign policy debates, has reiterated his long-held position against U.S. involvement in Middle East conflicts. He told reporters, “I don’t want America dragged into stupid wars, especially in the Middle East. That ends when I return.”
He emphasized that a new U.S. administration under his leadership would focus on de-escalation, not escalation. Trump’s remarks signal a growing divide in how American leaders approach the Iran-Israel conflict.
While the U.S. may have had foreknowledge of Israeli operation, its choice to label it “unilateral” points to a clear strategy: stay close to Israel but stay out of the battlefield.
With tensions rising in the Middle East, Washington’s balancing act may prove harder to maintain in the days ahead.
