The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast thunderstorms, strong winds, and rain for parts of the province over the weekend.
Extreme Heat Grips Sindh
Most regions of Sindh continued to experience intense heat and dry conditions on Friday. In Karachi, temperatures are expected to remain between 37°C and 39°C in the coming days. A disruption in the sea breeze has worsened conditions in coastal areas, and experts say this pattern may persist.
Expected Rainfall in Select Districts
The PMD predicts that Tharparkar and Umerkot may receive isolated showers with thunder and gusty winds by Saturday evening. On Sunday, Ghotki, Sukkur, and Jacobabad are also likely to experience rainfall and stormy weather.

Karachi Faces Prolonged Heat
The heat in Karachi has intensified due to a blocked sea breeze. However Meteorologists link this to wind circulation over Gujarat, India, and a western weather system. These elements have combined to raise the city’s heat intensity and delay cooling.
Lahore and KP Suffer Under Heatwave
Lahore recorded a high of 44°C on Friday, with heat intensity felt up to 47°C. The prolonged dry spell from May through June continues to drive temperatures beyond seasonal averages. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar reached 40°C, with forecasts predicting a rise to 44°C. Humidity stood at 52%, and several districts in KP are expected to receive light rain starting Friday.
Cholistan Desert in Crisis
Southern Punjab, particularly the Cholistan Desert, saw temperatures soar near 48°C. The PMD expects the extreme heat to persist for the next two days. Locals report worsening water shortages, dried-up wells, livestock deaths, and forced migrations due to the harsh climate conditions.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as the region awaits potential rainfall to ease the crisis.
