Israeli Navy Intercepts Gaza-Bound Aid Boat in International Waters

A Gaza aid boat carrying 12 activists and humanitarian supplies was intercepted by Israeli forces and redirected to Ashdod port on Monday.
Interception in International Waters
Organizers of the mission claimed that Madleen was stopped overnight while navigating through international waters. Despite being far from Israeli territory, the boat was seized and brought under military control. The interception sparked concern among human rights groups and pro-Palestinian activists who supported the mission.
Arrival at Ashdod Port
According to an AFP photographer on the scene, the boat reached Ashdod at approximately 8:45 pm local time. The Israeli military has not yet issued a detailed statement about the incident, but officials confirmed that the boat was redirected for security inspections.

Mission Carried Humanitarian Supplies
The Madleen was carrying essential supplies intended for residents of Gaza, who have long faced restrictions under an Israeli blockade. Organizers emphasized that the mission aimed to deliver food, medical aid, and other non-lethal materials to civilians suffering under dire humanitarian conditions.
The boat also carried 12 international activists who support the Palestinian cause.
Ongoing Tensions Over Gaza Blockade
This interception highlights ongoing tensions surrounding the Israeli blockade on Gaza, which has drawn global criticism for restricting the movement of goods and people. Aid flotillas attempting to reach Gaza often face maritime blockades, with several similar missions in the past ending in confrontation.
Activists continue to challenge the blockade, arguing it violates international law and human rights. Israel, however, maintains the restrictions are necessary to prevent weapons from reaching Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza.
