Pakistan’s confirmation of acquiring J-35 stealth jets from China has triggered a rally in Chinese defence stocks. The deal, which had been circulating through unofficial channels for weeks, was confirmed last week by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a social media post.

Chinese Stocks Respond Strongly

Following the announcement, shares of AVIC Shenyang Aircraft Co.—the manufacturer of the J-35—reached their 10% daily trading limit in Shanghai. It marked the third consecutive day of gains. Meanwhile, Aerospace Nanhu Electronic Information Technology Co. jumped by up to 15%, reflecting investor optimism around the deal.

Pakistan Moves Ahead with Pilot Training

Pakistani officials revealed that pilots are already undergoing training in China in preparation for the jet’s delivery. The first batch of J-35s is expected to arrive by August, according to defence sources.

Cutting-Edge Technology and Capabilities

The J-35A is China’s second fifth-generation fighter jet after the Chengdu J-20. It boasts stealth technology, a sleek design, and long-range combat ability. Defence analyst Brandon J. Weichert explained that the J-35A could transform Pakistan’s air power by offering superior evasion and precision-strike capabilities.

The aircraft is equipped with an AESA radar, advanced avionics, and electro-optical targeting systems. These features enhance detection, tracking, and strike precision. The jet’s design minimizes radar cross-section, making it harder to detect in hostile environments.

Built for Dominance in Air Combat

The J-35A can carry PL-15 and PL-17 long-range air-to-air missiles, giving it an edge in beyond-visual-range engagements. Its power comes from either Russian RD-93 or China’s WS-19 turbofan engines, enabling speeds of up to 1,367 mph.

Strategic Shift in Air Superiority

Pakistan aims to replace its aging F-16 and Mirage aircraft with the J-35. Experts believe the advanced jet will strengthen Pakistan’s deterrence and enable deeper strikes if required. With enhanced reach and stealth, the J-35 could challenge Indian air defences and potentially reshape South Asia’s aerial power balance.
