Karachi is experiencing a surge in seismic activity, with two minor earthquakes jolting different parts of the city on Thursday. The latest tremors have heightened public concern, as experts warn of continued seismic movement over the next few days.
Tremors Return to Malir Area
The most recent quake struck at 7:54 AM, with a magnitude of 2.0 on the Richter scale. The Seismic Monitoring Centre reported the epicentre to be about 11 kilometers northeast of Malir, at a depth of 40 kilometers. This event adds to a growing list of tremors affecting the area since June 1.
Earlier Quake Recorded in Southern Malir
Another tremor was recorded earlier the same day in southern Malir. It had a magnitude of 2.1 and occurred at a shallow depth of just 5 kilometers. This incident triggered panic, with residents seen rushing out of homes and buildings for safety. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage have been reported so far.

Rising Number of Tremors Raise Alarm
In just five days, the city has experienced 29 tremors, a sharp increase in seismic occurrences. Experts believe that this unusual spike suggests a shift in underground geological movement. They urge citizens to stay alert and follow emergency protocols if stronger tremors occur.
Authorities on High Alert
The Seismic Monitoring Centre and local disaster management authorities have issued warnings about the possibility of continued seismic activity. They expect more minor tremors over the next three to four days. While current quakes are mild, officials recommend preparedness for any sudden developments.
Precaution Over Panic
Despite the growing number of tremors, experts advise calm. Mild seismic movements are not unusual in tectonically active zones like Karachi. Still, the rising frequency has brought attention to the need for stronger monitoring systems and public awareness efforts.
Residents are urged to stay informed through official sources and remain cautious without giving in to fear.
