Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called the evolving US-Pakistan relations a “renewed friendship,” expressing optimism over deepening cooperation in trade, diplomacy, and peace. Speaking at a ceremony marking the 249th US Independence Day at the US Embassy, he praised US President Donald Trump for his peace-driven approach and commitment to global stability.
Shared Democratic Ideals
Shehbaz highlighted the historical and long-standing nature of US-Pakistan relations, dating back decades. He recalled American support in the construction of major development projects in Pakistan, including dams. Drawing a parallel between American founding ideals and the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he said both nations share values of democracy, constitutional rule, and equality.

Pahalgam Incident and Regional Tensions
Addressing recent tensions with India, the Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s offer for an international investigation into the Pahalgam incident, which he termed a “false flag operation.” He criticized India for rejecting peaceful dialogue and instead launching unprovoked aggression. On May 6-7, 33 Pakistanis, including women and children, were martyred. In response, Pakistan shot down six Indian aircraft in self-defense.
Trump’s Role in Ceasefire
Shehbaz praised President Trump for playing a decisive role in restoring peace. He described Trump as “a man for peace” who opposed war and promoted diplomacy. The US President, he noted, encouraged both countries to prioritize trade over conflict, a message that resonated with Pakistan’s commitment to de-escalation and economic cooperation.
Strengthening Economic Ties
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that trade between the two countries would grow, especially in sectors like IT, agriculture, education, and health. Ongoing discussions on tariff issues reflect both sides’ willingness to remove hurdles to investment and economic growth.
Looking Ahead
Shehbaz concluded by congratulating President Trump and the American people on their Independence Day. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to peace and prosperity—both within the region and globally—and voiced his admiration for Trump’s forward-looking vision on trade and international cooperation.
