Riyadh: Saudi Arabia will observe the crescent moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1446 AH tonight. The moon sighting will take place on Tuesday evening, 29 Dhul-Qa’dah / 27th May.
The Saudi Supreme Court has called on citizens and residents to look for the new moon. The sighting will determine the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah. This month includes the Day of Arafah and Eid al-Adha.
Moon Sighting Will Decide Eid Dates
The announcement is crucial for Muslims around the world. The Supreme Court will confirm whether the moon is visible or not. If sighted, Wednesday will be the first day of Dhul-Hijjah.
The Day of Arafah will fall on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah. Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on the 10th. If the moon is not seen tonight, the current month will complete 30 days. In that case, Dhul-Hijjah will begin on Thursday.
Global Muslim Community Awaits Decision
Muslims worldwide are closely watching Saudi Arabia’s official announcement. Many countries follow the Saudi moon sighting for Islamic events. Millions await the dates for Hajj rituals and Eid prayers.
Eid al-Adha is one of the most sacred festivals in Islam. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. Muslims around the world offer animal sacrifices on this day and distribute meat among the needy.
Key Role of the Saudi Supreme Court
The Saudi Supreme Court plays a vital role in moon sighting decisions. It relies on both visual sightings and astronomical data. Religious scholars and moon sighting committees work together across different regions of the Kingdom.
Saudi citizens who spot the moon are asked to report to the nearest court or moon sighting center. The final decision will be made based on collective reports and testimony.
Hajj Pilgrims Prepare for Sacred Days
