PTI Mulls No-Confidence Move Against PM Shehbaz

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is actively considering a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. The proposal comes amid mounting pressure from opposition parties seeking to challenge the current government’s legitimacy.

Imran Khan Endorses Strategy

According to party sources, PTI founder Imran Khan held a detailed meeting with his legal team and close associates, including family members, to discuss the political landscape. During the meeting, Khan was briefed on the broader opposition stance, particularly the position of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, who has already expressed his lack of confidence in the speaker.

Khan reportedly authorised the party leadership to move forward with the no-confidence motion when the time is right. He urged a strategic approach that balances parliamentary challenge with public mobilisation.

Parliamentary Challenge Under Review

Former speaker and senior PTI leader Asad Qaiser confirmed that both the prime minister and speaker are being targeted for potential no-confidence motions. He noted that the party has not ruled out the option but is waiting for the right moment.

“We have not shelved the plan,” Qaiser stated. “We are holding back for now due to the recent Pakistan-India conflict. Launching a political offensive during a national security crisis would not be appropriate.”

He added that the party’s leadership remains united on this course of action and is consulting with all opposition allies to align the strategy.

Opposition in Sync

Opposition figures see the move as a step toward reclaiming democratic space and holding the current administration accountable. Internal party discussions also point to a renewed effort to exert pressure both inside and outside Parliament.

The potential move holds symbolic weight, given that Imran Khan himself was removed from office via a no-confidence motion in April 2022 — the only such instance in Pakistan’s political history.

For now, PTI and its allies are preparing their political playbook while keeping a close eye on national developments.
