\Pakistan’s military has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to peace amid rising tensions with India. Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, said Pakistan is not a violent nation and seeks peace above all else.
In an interview with RT Arabic, Lt Gen Chaudhry stated, “We are not a violent nation, we are a serious nation. Our first priority is peace.” His remarks came after a week of escalating military exchanges between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
India Blames Pakistan for Kashmir Attack
Last month, a deadly attack struck India’s Pahalgam region in occupied Kashmir. India immediately blamed Pakistan. However, it provided no evidence. Pakistan strongly denied the accusations and called for a neutral international probe.
As military tensions rose, the United States intervened to mediate. Both countries eventually agreed to a ceasefire. Lt Gen Chaudhry said, “Great and sensible powers like the United States understand better what the spirit of Pakistan’s people is.”
Ceasefire Request Came from India
Lt Gen Chaudhry revealed that India initiated the ceasefire proposal. “The Indian defence ministry’s spokesperson personally requested a ceasefire,” he said. He did not confirm whether the request came directly to Pakistan or through the United States.
Pakistan welcomed the opportunity. “We desire peace and stability, so we said, why not?” he told PTV News.
He praised the efforts of Pakistani diplomats, calling their role “tremendous.” He said, “They engaged the international community with great wisdom and in an extraordinary manner.”
Pakistan Responded with Maturity
The DG ISPR described how Pakistan reacted after Indian strikes killed over 30 civilians in Punjab and Azad Kashmir on the night of May 6-7.
“Pakistan, with great maturity, responded promptly, firmly and effectively, forcing the enemy to face reality,” he said.
In retaliation, Pakistan downed five Indian fighter jets and intercepted dozens of drones.
Operation Bunyanum Marsoos Launched
India escalated its offensive on May 9 by attacking Pakistani airbases. In response, Pakistan launched “Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.”
“Our forces responded by hitting only military targets inside India with missiles and airstrikes,” Chaudhry explained. “Not a single civilian target was harmed; it was an appropriate, just and balanced response.”
He added, “The nation and the Pakistan armed forces stood united like an unbreakable wall.”
May 9-10: Peak of Escalation
Lt Gen Chaudhry detailed how India launched more missiles during the night of May 9-10. “India tried to scare us. But India forgot that Pakistan’s nation and its forces neither bow nor can be made to bow,” he said.
On May 10 morning, Pakistan responded with caution. “We targeted only military objectives, showing utmost responsibility,” he stressed.

India Denied Neutral Investigation
Chaudhry criticised India’s refusal to accept an impartial investigation into the Kashmir incident.
“India is hiding behind a false narrative to conceal the truth,” he said. “Where is the wisdom in making allegations without investigation and evidence?”
He noted that Indian media blamed Pakistan within minutes of the Pahalgam incident. However, India’s foreign ministry later admitted that the investigation was still ongoing.
Pakistan offered full cooperation with any neutral probe. But India rejected the offer and responded with missile strikes. “They hit mosques and martyred children, women, and elders,” he added.
Armed Forces to Defend at All Costs
Lt Gen Chaudhry reiterated the military’s duty to protect the nation’s sovereignty. “The sacred responsibility entrusted to the Pakistan armed forces is to protect the country’s sovereignty and borders,” he declared. “We will continue to do so at all costs.”
India Sponsoring Terrorism: ISPR
The military spokesperson also accused India of sponsoring terrorism inside Pakistan. “India is the real sponsor of ongoing terrorism in Pakistan,” he said.
He referenced the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as Fitna Al Khawarij. “Whether it is the khawarij or terrorist groups active in Balochistan, India is backing them,” he said.
Last month, the Pakistani military arrested a terror suspect in Jhelum. The suspect was allegedly trained by India, according to ISPR.
