Amid rising regional tensions, the India-Pakistan ceasefire has held steady since its announcement, with top military officials from both countries set to meet on Monday to discuss the agreement’s implementation and future steps.
Calm After Intense Hostilities
The ceasefire, brokered by the United States, followed nearly four days of cross-border shelling and aerial strikes. On Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the truce, calling for an immediate halt to the aggression that threatened widespread destruction.
Since then, both nations have stopped hostilities but remain on alert. Each side has warned the other of severe consequences in case of violations. Despite calm, military readiness continues on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC).
Civilian Life Slowly Resumes
India reopened 32 airports for civilian use on Monday. These had been shut due to escalating conflict. The move signals a gradual return to normalcy, though underlying tensions persist.

Deadly Escalation in Kashmir
The flare-up began after a militant attack on 22 April in Indian-administered Kashmir killed 26 people in the Pahalgam valley. India blamed a Pakistan-based group, while Islamabad denied any involvement.
In response, India launched airstrikes on 7 May, targeting nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Both sides reported striking military bases and shooting down enemy aircraft and drones.
Conflicting Military Claims
India claimed to have struck 11 Pakistan Air Force bases and nine militant training camps, killing over 100 fighters. Pakistan reported hitting 26 Indian military facilities and said its drones flew over high-value sites, including Delhi.
India confirmed some damage at its bases but did not verify claims about drone incursions or the downing of aircraft. Pakistan said it shot down five Indian jets, including three Rafales—an assertion India has not confirmed.
Both sides declared military success after the truce, underscoring how fragile peace remains despite the temporary halt in fighting. Talks between military leaders will now determine if the calm can evolve into long-term stability.
