The newly declared India-Pakistan ceasefire offered a brief moment of hope on May 10, 2025, after days of deadly military clashes. Both nations agreed to halt all hostilities following talks between their military officials. Celebrations broke out in several areas, especially in Kashmir. However, within hours, reports of fresh explosions cast doubt over the truce’s durability.
Ceasefire Agreement Announced
The ceasefire was officially implemented at 5:00 p.m. Indian Standard Time. Military representatives from both sides confirmed a complete stop to operations across land, air, and sea. This development followed intense overnight shelling along the Line of Control (LoC), which raised fears of a fifth full-scale war since 1947.
Explosions Raise New Tensions
Despite the announcement, Indian-administered Kashmir witnessed multiple explosions later on Saturday. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri accused Pakistan of violating the newly agreed terms. He stated that the Indian military had been instructed to respond forcefully to any further breaches.
In contrast, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar denied the accusations. Speaking to local media, he claimed there had been no violations from the Pakistani side and urged calm.

Analysts Warn of Fragile Peace
Sahar Khan, a security analyst based in Washington, highlighted the fragility of the truce. She noted that this ceasefire follows a pattern of repeated breakdowns, referencing a 2021 agreement that barely held until 2023. “The ceasefire is a welcome step, but it rests on shaky ground,” she warned.
Hope Amid Uncertainty
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed optimism in a televised address. He said that resolving the Kashmir conflict and water-sharing issues remains a priority. He described the ceasefire as a step toward long-term peace.
Both sides confirmed that military officials would hold further talks on May 12 to assess progress and reinforce the agreement.
While the ceasefire has offered temporary relief, its success will depend on continued diplomacy and restraint on both sides.
