PIA Issues Travel Advisory Amid Indo-Pak Tensions; Flight Operations Disrupted

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has issued a travel advisory for passengers as flight operations remain disrupted due to rising tensions between Pakistan and India.

The national carrier confirmed that ongoing security concerns have impacted air traffic at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport.

According to the PIA spokesperson, several air routes are currently under temporary restrictions. This precaution has led to multiple flights being either delayed, diverted, or rescheduled to ensure the safety of travelers and airline staff.

“Some air corridors have been limited purely as a precautionary measure,” the spokesperson said. He added that PIA is making alternative arrangements for affected passengers. These include providing accommodation, meals, and on-ground assistance where necessary.

Passengers have been urged to confirm their flight schedules with the airline before heading to the airport to avoid inconvenience.

Security Situation Escalates

The advisory follows a dramatic escalation of military conflict. On May 7, the Pakistan Armed Forces shot down five Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets and a combat drone. Pakistan also destroyed several Indian checkposts and a brigade headquarters near the Line of Control (LoC), confirmed Director General of ISPR, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry.

According to the DG ISPR, the Indian military launched missile strikes from across the border. The strikes targeted key Pakistani cities, including Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Ahmedpur Sharqia, Bagh, and Muridke.

During a press conference, DG ISPR labeled the attack as a “cowardly” act. He warned that the provocation will not go unpunished and added that Pakistan’s military had responded decisively.

International Reaction and Indian Losses

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, in an interview with CNN, said even Indian media had admitted the crash of at least three Indian jets. These crashes reportedly occurred in Indian-occupied Kashmir. He criticized India’s aggression and reiterated Pakistan’s right to defend its sovereignty.

The ongoing conflict has heightened fears of a wider military escalation. Authorities have placed airports and security installations on high alert. Civil aviation authorities are also coordinating with defense agencies to manage the safety of flights in and out of conflict zones.

Travelers Urged to Stay Updated

As tensions remain high, PIA has advised all travelers to stay in contact through its official helpline and website. The airline is actively updating passengers through SMS alerts and airport announcements.

Passengers planning domestic or international travel are encouraged to check for any changes or cancellations in advance.

This latest development has disrupted not only civilian flight operations but also raised broader concerns about regional stability and the safety of air routes in South Asia.
