Palworld Drops Gliding with Pals After Pokémon Lawsuit Escalates

The Palworld gliding removal has sparked fresh reactions among gamers after developers were forced to eliminate creature-assisted flight. The latest change, introduced in Patch v0.5.5, comes amid rising legal pressure from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company over alleged similarities to Pokémon game mechanics.
Glider Item Replaces Pal Support
Effective immediately, players must use a separate glider item from their inventory to glide through the game world. Previously, players could use their in-game creatures, called Pals, to glide—a feature many found both fun and strategic. Although Pals will still give minor passive boosts during gliding, they can no longer be used for direct aerial travel.
Legal Pressure Mounts
Pocketpair, the studio behind Palworld, announced the change on May 8 through its official X (formerly Twitter) account. “We regret to inform our players that with the implementation of Patch v0.5.5, we must make yet another compromise,” the company stated. They acknowledged fan frustration but emphasized the necessity of this move to avoid further legal setbacks.

This is not the first time the game has had to bow to legal demands. In November 2024, Pocketpair removed the Pal Sphere summoning mechanic—another feature accused of mimicking Pokémon-style gameplay.
Ongoing Commitment to Players
Despite ongoing legal issues, Pocketpair reaffirmed its dedication to Palworld’s growth. The developers apologized to fans for the confusion and disruption, vowing to continue delivering content and updates. “We remain committed to developing Palworld and delivering exciting new content,” the statement read.
