ISLAMABAD: Azerbaijan on Thursday expressed deep concern over the rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The country strongly condemned India’s recent missile strikes on Pakistani territory.
In a statement, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said, “We condemn military attacks against the Islamic Republic of Pakistan that killed and injured several civilians.” The ministry also extended condolences to the families of the victims and wished a quick recovery to the injured.
The ministry urged both sides to avoid further violence. “We call on all parties to exercise restraint and resolve the conflict through diplomatic means,” the statement added.
Pakistan Responds to Indian Missile Strikes
The situation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors intensified on May 7. Pakistan’s armed forces responded to Indian aggression by shooting down five Indian Air Force (IAF) jets and a combat drone. They also destroyed several Indian military posts and brigade headquarters near the Line of Control (LoC).
Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, confirmed the retaliatory action in a press briefing. He said the Indian missiles targeted several cities including Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Ahmedpur Sharqia, Bagh, and Muridke.

“India Will Be Held Accountable” – DG ISPR
DG ISPR strongly condemned the attack. “India launched a cowardly missile strike from its own airspace targeting Pakistani cities. The aggression will not go unpunished,” he stated.
He said the missile attack killed and injured civilians, including women and children. “Targeting innocent lives is a violation of all international laws and norms,” he emphasized.
Defence Minister Slams Indian Narrative
In an interview with CNN, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also criticized New Delhi. He said Indian media had already admitted the crash of three Indian aircraft in the Indian-occupied region of Kashmir.
Asif said the strikes had no military value and were intended to provoke Pakistan. “This act of aggression was an attempt to create panic among civilians. But we are fully capable of defending our homeland,” he said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Calls It a “Grave Mistake”
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation after the attacks. He labeled India’s actions a “grave mistake.”
“The attack will not go unanswered. We will protect our sovereignty and ensure those responsible are brought to justice,” the premier said.
He urged the international community to take notice of India’s reckless behavior. “The world must intervene before the situation spirals out of control,” he added.
International Reactions Begin
Azerbaijan is among the first countries to officially condemn India’s strikes. More international responses are expected in the coming days as the situation unfolds.
Pakistan has also started diplomatic outreach to global partners to highlight India’s actions and seek support for de-escalation through peaceful dialogue.
