Pakistan has reimposed an airspace closure over Lahore as tensions with India intensify. The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) issued a fresh Notice to Airpersons (NOTAM) early Thursday, shutting down Lahore’s airspace until 6 a.m. Friday, citing operational and security concerns.
Flights Disrupted Nationwide
The PAA advised passengers to remain in close contact with their respective airlines for updated flight information. The authority also issued new flight restrictions for Skardu and Gilgit airports, requiring coordination with air traffic control before any takeoff or landing. Flights without clearance will not be allowed to operate.
Earlier, the PAA had announced the resumption of operations at Lahore, Islamabad, and Sialkot airports. However, uncertainty still surrounds the flight status at Karachi airport.

Tensions Trigger Closures
The airspace restrictions come after a series of airstrikes exchanged between India and Pakistan, resulting in heightened security across Pakistani airspace. The PAA initially shut down Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, and Sialkot airports on Wednesday, extending the closure from noon to 6 p.m., before reopening select airports.
Officials cited the threat of Indian incursions as a primary reason for the shutdown. With military activity intensifying, civilian flights were deemed at risk.
Global Flights Rerouted
In response, several international airlines—mostly from Asia—rerouted or canceled flights to avoid Pakistan’s airspace. Flight tracking data showed aircraft diverting through Oman, UAE, and Kuwait, creating congestion in alternative air corridors.
Military Situation Escalates
Pakistan’s military claims to have downed five Indian Air Force jets, a drone, and several key targets in response to Indian strikes in Punjab and Azad Kashmir. The situation continues to evolve, prompting aviation authorities to maintain strict control over airspace access amid national security concerns
