Tensions between nuclear-armed Pakistan and India escalated dramatically overnight as Pakistan shot down an Indian fighter jet, British media reported early Tuesday. The confrontation marks a major flare-up along the Line of Control (LoC).
According to credible security sources, Pakistan’s retaliatory strikes struck critical Indian military infrastructure. One of the precision strikes reportedly wiped out an Indian brigade headquarters. Another missile targeted and destroyed an enemy post in the Dudhniyal sector.
These actions come as part of Pakistan’s strong military response to what Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called “cowardly and deceitful” attacks by India on five separate locations inside Pakistani territory.
In a swift move to manage the developing crisis, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz declared a state of emergency across Punjab province.
All doctors and healthcare workers have been placed on high alert, with all leaves cancelled. Civil defence and emergency services staff have been ordered to report for duty without delay.
Hospitals across the province are bracing for potential mass casualty incidents amid rising tensions.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has summoned an emergency meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) in Islamabad at 10:00 AM today.
In a strong statement, he warned India of consequences.
“Pakistan reserves the right to respond with full force,” he declared.
“Our military and our nation are fully capable of defending every inch of our homeland.”
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed the NSC session will assess the military, political, and humanitarian dimensions of the situation.
The overnight escalation has pushed the region to the brink. Pakistani forces remain on high alert along the LoC, while air defence systems have reportedly been activated in major cities.
Both sides have blamed each other for initiating the hostilities, and international observers have urged immediate restraint.
