Israel Strikes Sanaa Airport After Houthi Missile Near Tel Aviv

In a significant escalation, Israel launched a Sanaa airport strike on Tuesday, claiming it had “fully disabled” Yemen’s main international airport in the Houthi-controlled capital. This move comes just two days after a missile fired by the Iran-backed Houthis landed near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, briefly halting flights.

Targets Hit in Coordinated Attack

According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the airstrikes targeted the airport’s runways, civilian planes, the departures hall, and nearby military facilities. Airport sources confirmed that three civilian aircraft and key airport infrastructure were damaged.

In addition to the airport, Israel also hit electricity infrastructure in the capital and the al-Imran cement factory in northern Sanaa. These sites, according to the IDF, supported Houthi logistics and operations.

Retaliation for Missile Launch Near Tel Aviv

Sunday’s missile attack by the Houthis marked a bold move in their campaign against Israel. The missile landed near the main terminal at Ben Gurion Airport, injuring six people and prompting temporary airport closure.

In response, Israel first targeted the Yemeni port city of Hudaydah on Monday, striking a cement factory and other infrastructure. The Houthis reported at least four dead and 35 wounded in those strikes.

Red Sea Tensions Rise

Hudaydah, Yemen’s second-largest Red Sea port, plays a critical role in the country’s food supply. Around 80% of Yemen’s imports arrive through this port. Attacks on such strategic locations heighten concerns about worsening humanitarian conditions in the war-torn nation.

Netanyahu Issues Stern Warning

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded firmly, promising continued action. “We attacked in the past, we will attack in the future,” he said, vowing to retaliate against any threats to Israeli security.
