Rain Halts Qalandars vs Gladiators Clash in PSL X

Share the latest news updates

Rain played spoilsport in the much-anticipated PSL X clash between Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on Thursday. The evening match was abandoned after just 11.3 overs, with both teams sharing a point each. The no-result leaves both sides locked on nine points, occupying second and third places, respectively, on the points table.

Promising Start Derailed by Rain

Quetta Gladiators won the toss and chose to field first under overcast skies. Their decision paid off early as Khurram Shahzad bowled out Fakhar Zaman in the first over. However, Lahore Qalandars recovered quickly, thanks to a commanding 102-run stand between Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Naeem.

Naeem, playing with confidence, smashed his maiden PSL half-century, scoring 50 off just 30 balls with four sixes and three fours. At the other end, Abdullah continued his consistent run in the tournament, reaching an unbeaten 53 off 32 balls—his eighth fifty in four PSL seasons.

Abrar Strikes Back Before Downpour

Just as Qalandars looked set for a big total, Quetta’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed stepped in. He removed Naeem and then dismissed Daryl Mitchell, slowing down the Qalandars’ charge. The scoreboard read 111 for 3 in 11.3 overs when heavy rain interrupted play.

Despite efforts to resume the game, the rain persisted and the match was eventually called off, with both captains—Shaheen Shah Afridi and Saud Shakeel—accepting the one-point outcome.

What’s Next?

With the league stage nearing its end, every point counts. Lahore Qalandars will now face Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi in their remaining matches. Meanwhile, Quetta Gladiators are scheduled to meet Multan Sultans and Islamabad United twice.

Both teams remain in strong contention for playoff spots, but the weather may still play a role in the final standings.

The next match in PSL X will see Peshawar Zalmi take on Islamabad United on Friday night at the same venue, Gaddafi Stadium.
