Significance of Eidul Adha

Eidul Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Isma’il in obedience to God’s command. Traditionally, the festival begins with congregational prayers at mosques, followed by the ritual of Qurbani—sacrificing a goat, sheep, or cow.

Islamic Calendar and Moon Sighting

This sets May 28 as the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah.

The Day of Arafat—considered one of the most spiritually significant days in Islam—will fall on Thursday, June 5. Eidul Adha will be celebrated the next day, on Friday, June 6. This timeline aligns with global observances and allows Muslims to fully engage in the spiritual practices surrounding the festival.

These official holidays offer not just a break from work but also an opportunity for reflection, charity, and togetherness.
