US Bombards Yemen, Israeli Police Assault Journalist, UN Condemns Gaza Blockade

Holger Rune Makes Statement With Stunning WinThe United States has escalated its military campaign against Yemen’s Houthi rebels. It has launched multiple airstrikes across several regions. Al-Masirah TV, linked to the Houthis, reports that the strikes hit Sanaa, Brash, Kamaran Island, and parts of Marib.
The U.S. military says the operations target the Houthis’ capabilities. The group disrupts international shipping lanes in the Red Sea and attacks Israeli targets. This campaign is part of a broader effort to protect global trade routes. It also aims to counter Iran-backed militant influence in the region.
The airstrikes have resulted in significant casualties. Houthi sources report that at least 12 people were killed and 34 others injured in Sanaa alone. The recent strike on the Ras Isa fuel port, a key economic hub in Yemen, reportedly killed at least 80 people and injured 150, marking the deadliest incident since the U.S. began its campaign against the Houthis.
In Tel Aviv, tensions flared during an anti-government protest when an Israeli police officer on horseback reportedly struck Haaretz photojournalist Itai Ron with a riding crop. Videos circulating online show mounted officers advancing into crowds of demonstrators, attempting to disperse them. At least two protesters were arrested during the confrontation. The incident has drawn criticism from press freedom advocates and raised concerns about the use of force against journalists covering public demonstrations.

U.S. Intensifies Yemen Airstrikes
Meanwhile, Francesca Albanese, the UN’s Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, has responded to comments made by U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee. Huckabee suggested that Hamas should release Israeli captives in exchange for lifting the blockade on Gaza. Albanese highlighted Article 8(2)(b)(xxv) of the Rome Statute, stating that “withholding humanitarian aid is a war crime.” She emphasized that such actions exacerbate conditions intended to destroy the Palestinian population in Gaza and urged collective efforts to halt these practices.
The exchange underscores the ongoing international debate over the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the legal implications of blockades and aid restrictions.
As the situation in Yemen and the broader Middle East continues to evolve, the international community watches closely, concerned about the potential for further escalation and the humanitarian impact on civilian populations.
