Israeli Drone Strike Hits Vehicle in Southern Lebanon Amid Escalating Cross-Border Attacks

BEIRUT: An Israeli military drone targeted a vehicle on a highway in the Ghaziyeh area, just south of Sidon in southern Lebanon, on Friday, according to Lebanese media and security sources. The airstrike comes amid rising tensions and increasing cross-border military operations between Israel and Hezbollah.
Video footage from the scene shows the vehicle engulfed in flames while emergency crews attempt to douse the blaze. The full extent of casualties remains unclear. Officials have not confirmed the identity of the car’s occupants or whether they were linked to Hezbollah or any other group operating in the region.
Drone Strike Heightens Tensions
This incident marks another escalation in the Israel-Lebanon conflict, particularly along the volatile southern border. Israel has ramped up its drone surveillance and airstrikes in recent weeks following heightened hostilities triggered by the ongoing war in Gaza.
The Israeli military has not commented officially on the Ghaziyeh strike. However, analysts believe the target may have been a Hezbollah operative or a weapons transport, as the area is known for resistance group activity.
Parents of Captives Criticize Israeli Government After Gaza Talks
In a separate development, frustration among the families of Israeli hostages held in Gaza continues to grow. Tzvika Mor, father of captive Eitan Mor, and Ditza Or, mother of Avinatan Or, expressed outrage in a letter to Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, who also serves as Israel’s chief negotiator in the Gaza truce talks.
The parents said they felt “angry, humiliated, confused, and exhausted” after a two-hour meeting dominated by Dermer’s lengthy recap of the war’s history.
“We did not understand from you any operative proposal that will succeed in returning [the captives] home,” the letter read.
They accused the government of abandoning their loved ones “in hell” and criticized the lack of a clear hostage rescue plan.
Gaza Under Renewed Fire from Israeli Forces
On the ground in Gaza, Israeli military operations intensified on Friday. An Apache attack helicopter fired on residential areas in eastern Gaza City, according to reports from Al Jazeera Arabic. Simultaneously, Israeli armored units opened fire in the same zone, escalating fears of civilian casualties.
In southern Gaza, Israeli tanks shelled al-Qarara town, east of Khan Younis, while airstrikes were reported in the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza. Casualty figures for the latest assaults are not yet confirmed.
This comes as Israel continues its push to dismantle Hamas infrastructure in Gaza amid global criticism over the mounting humanitarian toll.
