Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi declared on Sunday that Pakistan stands as a global shield in counterterrorism cooperation, serving as a critical barrier between terrorism and the rest of the world. His remarks came during a high-level meeting with visiting US Congressmen in Islamabad, where both sides discussed security, trade, and investment.
Strengthening Pakistan-US Relations
The US congressional delegation included Congressmen Jack Bergman, Tom Suozzi, and Jonathan Jackson. Suozzi and Bergman serve as co-chairs of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus. Also present were Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker, Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry.
This visit marks the first high-level congressional trip to Pakistan in nearly two years. It comes at a crucial time, as Islamabad prepares to send a delegation to Washington to address trade relations and a recently imposed 29% tariff on Pakistani exports to the US.
Focus on Security and Counterterrorism
During the meeting, Interior Minister Naqvi emphasized the need for greater intelligence and technology-sharing in the fight against terrorism. He reiterated that terrorism remains a global threat and stressed that Pakistan has borne unmatched sacrifices to combat it.
“Pakistan’s role in counterterrorism is not only pivotal for regional peace but also for global stability,” Naqvi said. “We call on the international community to enhance collaboration and support our efforts.”
He described the visit by US lawmakers as vital for acknowledging Pakistan’s contributions to the global war on terror.

Promoting Economic and Investment Ties
Beyond security, both delegations discussed expanding cooperation in trade, economy, and investment. Naqvi welcomed the participation of US representatives in the recently held Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025. He assured that Pakistan will provide full protection and support to international investors.
“Strong and sustainable relations with the United States are central to Pakistan’s foreign policy,” he said. “We are committed to facilitating American investors in every possible way.”
The interior minister also praised the upcoming Pakistan Caucus session in the US, scheduled for April 30, as a positive step toward deepening bilateral ties.
Outlook for Future Engagement
Minister of State Talal Chaudhry expressed optimism about the upcoming Pakistan-US Counterterrorism Dialogue set for June in Islamabad. He noted that this platform would help build lasting cooperation in key areas such as border security and law enforcement.
In response, the US delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s crucial efforts in combating terrorism. They stressed the need to bring international attention to these efforts and praised the Pakistani diaspora in the US as a hardworking and talented community.
Growing Diplomatic Engagement
The meeting follows recent efforts to strengthen diplomatic engagement. Last month, US President Donald Trump commended Pakistan for assisting in the arrest of a key terrorist behind a deadly 2021 bombing in Afghanistan.
Moreover, Pakistani diplomat Tariq Fatemi’s recent meetings in Washington — including sessions with Congressmen Bergman and Suozzi — show that bilateral channels remain active and strategic.
These diplomatic exchanges suggest a renewed interest on both sides to build a relationship rooted in mutual respect, shared security interests, and robust economic engagement.
