Ireland now holds the world’s most powerful passport, according to the latest Nomad Capitalist ranking. The annual assessment considers multiple factors beyond just visa-free travel, making it a comprehensive measure of global mobility. Meanwhile, Pakistan ranks 195th, placing it among the weakest passports in the world.
What Makes a Passport Powerful?
The ranking evaluates five key factors:
-
Visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to different countries
-
Tax policies for citizens
-
Dual citizenship allowances
-
Personal freedoms
-
Overall global reputation and stability
With 176 visa-free destinations, Ireland secured the top position with 109 points. It offers favorable tax policies and allows dual citizenship, making it a highly attractive passport for global travelers.

Top Performers in the Ranking
Following Ireland, Greece and Switzerland shared the second position with 108 points. Portugal secured third place, while Luxembourg ranked fourth. Finland and Norway tied for the fifth position, highlighting Europe’s dominance in global mobility rankings.
Other strong contenders included the UAE, New Zealand, and Iceland, which landed in the tenth position. Surprisingly, Japan and Singapore—known for their extensive visa-free access—ranked lower due to strict dual citizenship laws and high tax policies.
Pakistan’s Low Ranking
On the other end of the spectrum, Pakistan ranked 195th, placing it among the weakest passports globally. With limited visa-free access and strict travel restrictions, Pakistani passport holders face significant hurdles when traveling abroad. The ranking underscores the need for policy reforms to improve global mobility for Pakistani citizens.
The Growing Importance of Passport Strength
In an increasingly globalized world, a strong passport opens doors to better economic opportunities, easier international travel, and greater personal freedom. Countries with favorable policies on taxation and dual citizenship continue to rank higher, reflecting their attractiveness to global investors and expatriates.
As nations adjust their policies, passport rankings will continue to evolve, influencing global travel, business, and residency decisions.
