Mysterious Drones Over New Jersey
Unexplained Drone Sightings Spark Alarm and Investigations
New Jersey residents are growing anxious as unexplained drone sightings continue to fill the skies. For weeks, blinking lights and whirring rotors of large unmanned aerial vehicles have been reported across the state, particularly in areas west of New York.
Despite military and government investigations, officials have yet to explain the recurring phenomenon. Local news channels have amplified the speculation, sharing blurry social media footage and urgent calls for action from residents.
Residents Voice Concerns
The sightings have rattled locals. Sam Lugo, a 23-year-old from Bergen County, said the reports are “pretty concerning” and described the lack of explanation as “alarming.”
Social media users, including one named Gus Seretis, claim to have seen the drones nightly since Thanksgiving. “They hover just about tree height or a little higher,” Seretis posted, comparing their size to that of a Jeep and threatening to “shoot at one” if it flies too low.

New Jersey Congressman Chris Smith has taken the issue to the Pentagon. In a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Smith expressed concerns about the drones flying near sensitive sites, including military installations.
Smith’s office reported that over a dozen drones pursued a Coast Guard lifeboat over the weekend. The congressman himself spent hours monitoring the skies with the sheriff of Ocean County, where many sightings have occurred.
Pentagon Rules Out Military and Foreign Activity
The Pentagon denies involvement, stating the drones are not part of any U.S. military operation. Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh added that the objects are not linked to any foreign adversary, rejecting claims that Iran is behind the sightings.
“There’s no Iranian ship off the U.S. coast, and no so-called mothership launching drones,” Singh clarified.
FBI and FAA Join the Investigation
The FBI confirmed it is aware of the sightings and is working with other agencies to investigate. However, it did not confirm reports of crisis meetings over the matter.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulates drone use for both recreational and business purposes. Witnesses have emphasized that the drones in question are much larger than those typically used by hobbyists.
Mixed Reactions From Residents
While some locals are alarmed, others remain unfazed. Joseph Boutros, a 21-year-old New Jersey native, said he has seen reports of the drones on social media but not in person. “It’s not something that worries me as long as they aren’t carrying weapons,” Boutros remarked casually.
Meanwhile, Lugo humorously added, “I don’t want to get abducted or anything like that,” even as he expressed genuine concern about the sightings.
The unexplained aerial activity has prompted widespread speculation and demands for transparency.
