Russian President Threatens Military Action

Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a stern warning regarding Ukraine’s efforts to develop nuclear weapons. In a statement, Putin emphasized that if Ukraine were to become a nuclear power, Russia would deploy all of its military resources in response. He further asserted that Russia would closely monitor every action taken by Ukraine and its allies in this regard. “All means of destruction are available to Russia,” he stated, underlining the gravity of the situation.

Violation of Non-Proliferation Agreements

Putin also addressed the potential transfer of nuclear weapons to Ukraine, stating that it would be a violation of several non-proliferation agreements. He made it clear that if any country were to officially transfer nuclear weapons to Ukraine, it would break the promises made under international arms control agreements, which have aimed to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons.

Concerns Over ‘Dirty Bomb’

While Putin acknowledged that developing nuclear weapons in Ukraine would be practically impossible, he raised concerns about the possibility of Ukraine constructing a “dirty bomb.” A dirty bomb, unlike a conventional nuclear bomb, uses radioactive material to contaminate an area but does not cause the same level of destruction. Putin warned that if such an event were to occur, Russia would respond appropriately.

U.S. Consideration

The remarks by President Putin come after a report by The New York Times last week, which cited anonymous Western officials. The report suggested that U.S. President Joe Biden could consider supplying nuclear weapons to Ukraine before leaving office. This development has further heightened tensions between Russia and Western nations over Ukraine’s security and military support.
