USAID Helps Flood Affected Farmers in KPK

USAID’s initiative Economic Recovery and Development Activity (ERDA) will help flood affected farmers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

USAID-ERDA program will provide assistance to agriculture, livestock, cooperative department and government of Pakistan.

It is estimated that they will provide 743 tons of wheat seeds, more than 1000 tons of fertilizer to 14000 flood affected farmers of Pakistan.

Dr. Muhammad Asrar Khan, who is the secretary of Livestock and Agriculture explained that due to recent floods, the whole Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been affected badly.

Many people have lost their homes, shelter, livestock and agricultural means.

He further mentioned that the floods severely affected the farms, as their lives depend on agriculture which was heavily damaged by the rains and floods.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government appealed to all the institutions and organizations to help the flood stricken areas and farmers.

Upon requests from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, USAID-ERDA decided to help the flood-stricken areas of DI Khan and Peshawar.

They decided to give assistance to ensure the availability of food, shelter and agricultural means.

The secretary said, “We are very grateful to USAID-ERDA for helping us in this hour of need”.
