Women Not Allowed to Visit Parks in Taliban Reign

The Ministry of Morality banned women’s entry in parks in Afghanistan as they do not understand the Islamic interpretation of dress code.

The spokesperson of Taliban’s ministry of morality, Akif Muhajir recently discuss the decision of banning women from going to parks.

He said in the interview that the ministry has discussed the issue and allowed the women to enter parks but they did not follow the dress code rules.

Muhajir explained, “For the last 14 or 15 months we were trying to provide an environment according to Sharia (Islamic law) and our culture for women to go to the parks,”

He further added, “Unfortunately, the owners of parks didn’t cooperate with us very well, and also the women didn’t observe hijab as was suggested. For now, the decision has been taken that they are banned,”

Although most women wear hijab in Afghanistan but Taliban government want women to dress a certain way.

They want women to cover themselves in a flowy garment called ‘burqa’ from head to toe, and cover their faces as well.

In some urban areas, the women wear hijab but do not cover their faces.

The Taliban government want them to wear burqa and cover their face too, or else they will remain banned from parks.
