Karachi: Islamabad court has reserved its verdict on PTI leader Azam Swati’s bail plea case relating to controversial tweets.
Special Judge Raja Asif of the District and Sessions Court of Islamabad heard Senator Azam Swati’s bail application, during which the FIA prosecutor said in his arguments that Azam Swati had made statements against the Army Chief on Twitter.
The plaintiff also said that the PTI leader had made an attempt to rebel against the Pakistan Army.
The FIA prosecutor said that Azam Swati blamed the army chief for the acquittal of some of the accused.
He mentioned that the army has nothing to do with an acquittal.
Azam Swati made provocative statements against the Army Chief and institutions on the public forum and has also admitted the tweets during the investigation, said the FIA prosecutor.
Meanwhile, Azam Swati’s lawyer, Babar Awan argued that his client exercised his constitutional right to freedom of expression by tweeting.
Babar Awan also claimed before the court that Azam Swati was tortured and humiliated while in custody.
“Was there a rebellion in the army after Azam Swati’s tweet?” he asked. “Did any subedar run away after Azam Swati’s tweet? Captain resigned.”
However, the court reserved the verdict which will be announced tomorrow.
