Buckingham Palace, on behalf of the Queen, referred to the controversial accusations made by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in an interview with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday night.
The Royal Family released a statement on Tuesday to the effect that they were ‘saddened’ and that they would deal with the problems individually as a family.
“The issues posed, in particular the topic of race, are important,” read the paragraph. “While some recollections can differ, they are taken very seriously and will be personally presented to the family.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made startling accusations with the US TV host during the two-hour special. The pair told Winfrey that Meghan had experimented with feelings of suicide since marrying the royal family.
Harry and Meghan argued that family members expressed “concerns” about “how black” their potential biracial children will be, and “what that means or looks like.”
The Queen’s grandson also admitted that bigotry was a major part of why the pair wanted to leave the United Kingdom and move back from serving as senior members of the royal family a year ago.
Winfrey later stated “ Harry had requested her to remember that neither his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, nor his grandfather, Prince Phillip, who had been hospitalized for weeks, had made racial remarks.
Meghan also disclosed how her new equation with her exiled boyfriend, Thomas Markle.
Speaking about how she felt misled after Thomas lied about talking to the press and manipulating paparazzi pictures, she said, “The tabloids had obviously known [the father’s location] for a month or so and planned to keep until the Sunday before our wedding since they wanted to create a drama.”
