A Washington Post journalist and US resident, Khashoggi, had written critical columns in 2018 about the Saudi crown prince, was later got killed by Saudi agents inside the Saudi consulate in Turkey.
According to foreign media reports, the Guardian, US intelligence agencies have come to the conclusion in the newly declassified intelligence document that Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi ruler, approved the killing of the Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.
As per media reports, the US intelligence community was confirmed that Prince Mohammed released orders to get rid of the journalist, but the assessment has never officially come to light.
However, the Saudi crown prince refuted the allegations about ordering the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.
Washington stopped short of targeting the future king Mohammed bin Salman with financial or other sanctions.
According to the reports, on Friday a four-page report was issued that confirmed the 35-year-old future king’s hand in the violent murder of, Jamal Khashoggi, one of his most prominent critics.
Jamal Khashoggi was exiled in the US and used Washington Post as a platform to criticize the Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman.
The publication of the assessment was followed by further measures by the Biden administration, including the announcement of a controversial “Khashoggi regime” aimed at enforcing visa restrictions against persons who, working on behalf of a foreign government, participate in “counter-dissident” practices, including intimidation, monitoring and attacks against journalists, activists and dissidents.
